Spirituality: Faith in the Holy Trinity; readiness for death.
Reflection: Barbara’s legend tells of a beautiful girl whose pagan father shut her
away in a tower. Converted in secret, she had a third window added to her bathhouse
in honor of the Holy Trinity. When her father discovered her faith, he handed her over
to be tortured and then beheaded her himself, and was struck down by lightning. She
became patroness of those in danger of sudden death, especially miners, artillerymen
and firefighters, and was invoked so that no one would die without the sacraments.
Barbara reminds us to be always ready to meet God.
